Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017) directed by Rian Johnson is the eighth film in the saga. The story continues the Resistance's pursuit by the First Order. Rey seeks Master Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To for Force training. Luke, traumatized by his Jedi academy failure and Kylo Ren's corruption, initially refuses to train Rey but eventually reveals profound truths about the Force. Kylo Ren wrestles with his identity and proposes Rey abandon everything together. The movie presents Snoke's death at Kylo Ren's hands. The battle on Crait's salt flats with Holdo's sacrifice is one of the most visually impactful. It deeply divided audiences but expanded the Force mythology.
