Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi

Summary

Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi is the eighth film in the saga, released in December 2017. Directed by Rian Johnson, who also wrote the screenplay, this movie took significant creative risks that deeply divided the Star Wars audience. However, it also significantly expanded the mythology of the Force, explored deeper themes about the nature of heroism, legacy, and hope, and presented some of the most visually impressive scenes in the saga.

The story continues the Resistance's pursuit by the First Order across the galaxy. While Commander Leia Organa leads the evacuation of her forces after a devastating attack, Rey seeks out Master Luke Skywalker on the isolated planet of Ahch-To for training in the ways of the Force. Luke, traumatized by the failure of his Jedi academy and the corruption of his nephew Ben Solo (Kylo Ren), initially refuses to train Rey, but eventually reveals profound truths about the Force and the legacy of the Jedi that challenge everything she believed she knew.

Simultaneously, Kylo Ren wrestles with his identity and his connection with Rey through the Force. The relationship between them evolves throughout the movie, culminating in a proposal to abandon everything and forge a new path together, free from the Jedi and the Sith. The movie also presents the devastating death of Supreme Leader Snoke at the hands of Kylo Ren.

The battle on Crait provides one of the most visually impressive moments in the saga, with First Order troops facing the last members of the Resistance on a planet covered in bright red salt. Vice Admiral Holdo's final sacrifice became one of the most memorable moments of the movie.
